Description
Now I guess in some ways, uploading a photo of a Pineapple plant is a bit unusual, but I thought I'd do it anyway since I'm guessing (or hoping lol) that I wasn't the only one that hadn't a clue how they really grew.
While in Hawaii, we went to the Dole Pineapple plantation and we were both amazed to learn that Pineapples don't grow on trees! They grow up from the plant on stalks like you see here. Presumably those stalks get bigger as the fruit does as well. We took the little train ride through the fields, but couldn't see the more mature fruits well enough to tell.
No idea what variety this is...they've got quite a few they have out for you to see what they look like up close which is what this one is. Didn't think to make note of what it was though...oops. :)

No way! That is just the coolest thing. I knew they didn't grow on trees, but I had no idea the stalk they grow on is so long! I thought they grew down in amongst the leaves. Well, I learn new things every day. Thanks for sharing this fascinating photo! I'm giving this a 5 for the educational value alone! :)
LOL I never knew they grew this way either til I moved to Hawaii... Another thing: Once you eat fresh Hawaiian pineapple, you'll never want to go back to the stuff at the grocery stores back home :P
