Description
Bald Eagles feed primarily on fish, but also eat small animals (ducks, coots, muskrats, turtles, rabbits, snakes, etc.) and occasional carrion, in particular Dead Salmon after they have spawned. They swoop down to seize fish in their powerful, long and sharp talons with amazing power approximately 1,000 pounds of pressure per square inch in each foot..!! They can carry their food off in flight, but can only lift about half their weight. Bald Eagles have been recorded at 45-50 miles per hour in level flight. They seldom dive vertically on their prey, preferring to decend more gradually and snatch fish, rabbits, etc. with their feet. Their diving speed is estimated at 75 to 100 miles per hour. They can fly to altitudes of 10,000 feet or more, and can soar aloft for hours using natural wind currents and thermal updrafts.

A fantastic photo. Great info. I had no idea of the strength in their feet.
What an amazing photo of an equally amazing bird of prey. CC
Very impressive capture Dan. Love the details and eagles of course :) Now the black spots on that pic, one on the right above the first feather on the tail and the second on the left a bit north west of the head. Are they from the lens or sensor! The reason i am asking, a friend of mine do have the same cam and its funny the, those spots are almost in the same place!!! I cleaned my self three times! Nothing! Oh well.. Maybe send it back to Canon Inc. Thank you for the post and have a wonderful day my friend JOE
