Description
The POOG (Pompous, Officious, Old Goat) has been a part of the natural landscape for many years. A hardy beast, best known for it's haunting cries of "I don't know anything about art, but I know what I like", "Artists are nothing more than thieves, deviant, and pornographers", "Why should we give money to the poor, make them work for a living. If there are no jobs, we'll find work for them to do." and the ever plaintive "Not in MY neighborhood". Often seen in the company of other POOGs, the Adult POOG is the darling of the Talk Jock circuit, fully willing to stridently chirp out it's opinions without any research or understanding. Although willing to send other species (Homo Sapiens in particular) into harms way, they, the POOGs, have never shown much inkling to put themselves at risk.
Although many species may mate for life, The POOG, whether male or female, seems to have difficulty attracting a long term co-habitant.
This has lead to the decline of the West Coast POOG although there has been a rising increase in the East Coast POOG population, to the point where the East Coast POOG has become a pest animal in most cities, frequently characterized by driving large SUV's, when walking would suffice. As a matter of interest, a new species of POOG has arisen during the past few years. This is the brightly plumed. Shortsighted Nashville POOG, characterized by a blind obedience to the East Coast POOG.
If you see a POOG on the Streets, do not approach, as they have been known to strike out blindly at anything they refuse to understand. Your best recourse is to observe from a distance, reveling in their clownish behavior. If you are approached by a POOG, just nod your head in silent agreement, and they will go away.
The POOG, living proof that evolution still needs work.
NOTE: I've been using the term POOG for decades, I just figured it was time to articulate it for the masses.
comments welcome, even the nasty ones.... let the political mudslinging begin!
