Description
I remember looking at books containing the works of Chris Foss works when I was in the 7th grade. At the time it filled my mind with visions of space, the future and most importantly with my ability to create, which is something that has stayed with me to this day.
So this piece was a design challenge for me as much as it was an homage to Chris Foss. I have tried to stay truthful to the original work as much a possible with some minor tweaks. Namely, the blowing smoke coming out the back of the top of the rover. Last, thing we need to do is pollute an alien world. There were so many design elements that would push me to stretch my technical skills. From the overall shape and look of the craft to the lighting, dust kicks up and even the objects in the foreground. This image has to be my most ambitious project to date.
I tried to build the scene entirely in Bryce. The only external program used was Photoshop for texture creation on the craft.
I hope you enjoy the work as much I enjoyed creating it.
As always, I greatly value any feedback.

Very excellent work. bravo
It does look very Chriss Foss. Even the weapon's colors. Well done!
Clouds and smoke are very difficult to get right in Bryce. I would consider rendering in coposited layers and add the smoke with Gimp or PS. I like Mr. Foss's work as well. A real futurist genius! How did you create the patrol vehicle? It just looks too good to be made out of Bryce booleans... LOL. Cheers on a good render.
nice truck !
And a brilliant one it is too.
Awesome artwork, I like it!!
a name you dont hear much of these days (shame) nice work
Nice work! Definitely looks like one of the pages out of the books (which I still have hidden away).
Very Chris Foss. Congrats!
very nicely done!!! you going to be shareing those models?
Perfect tribute to Chris Foss! You are a master (and I'm shure that we both have the same age)!
Very well realised - it is so evident how much you have learnt from studying work with strong qualities.
Fantastic scene ***** Great composition ***** Impressive image ***** Superb background and colors! (Thank you so much for your encouraging comments)
Wow!! Can't believe I didn't see this before! I am a huge Chris Foss fan as well and this is an excellent rendition of one of his works! Thats a tricky craft to model - great work! Cool mats as well. The Foss-style signature is a nice touch too!
Wow !!! I'm the lucky owner of a copy of the book "21ST CENTURY FOSS" (french edition, 1978) and this illustration is one of my favorites - You did a fantastic modeling but IMHO, you would have to respect the original format and show more backgound... Ad why not try to do the light effects and other smoke and dust enhancement using Photoshop ? BTW you gallery is full of great stuff !
Yup, this is a really cool model - very interesting design with nice choice of colors. Nice sense of motion as well!
