A very good version of the battle, one of the best. One or two observations, though: The Monitor's guns do not seem to be aiming directly at the Virginia. If you follow the line of sight of the turret guns, she seems to be firing past the bow of the Virginia. Also, and this botthered me in the first posting of the Virginia: the flashes from the broadside guns of the Virginia seem to be occurring in front of the muzzles, as if levitating, not erupting from the guns. Also, the flashes of all the guns, from both ships look more like the glow of lantern lights than blasts from the muzzles, there would be more flame and smoke emitting from the guns, especially more smoke. And, with the smokestack of the Virginia pierced with shell holes, a lot more smoke would be belching from the shotholes...these are realworld observations, which in no way belittle the look and feel of the posting. This is still one of the better renderings in this genre, almost like a painting...keep up the good work, really. But...research, research, research....

Good observations. I had used a realistic muzzle flash ( as far as i can figure a realistic flash looks like) in another one of my pics, but it covered so much of the model that I cut way back on it for this shot. Same reason for the smoke from the riddled stack, It covers so much that i would rather show off about the model. As for the aim of the Monitors guns, well in the wireframe version he is pointing at the first gun port, and i can only assume that the changing of the camera angle from one image to the next threw off the line of sight. I really did research this. The ships and positioning are correct as far as history knows, the davits and railings on the Virginia were all shot away but I left them on because they really are impressive models, same with the box pilot house of the monitor, the Pyrimid shaped box came into being after this battle, so I went with a more accurate version here. and I did not want to mess with the overall look that much. You could say I took artistic license to pay homage to the models and the watercolor painting I did of these years ago. Thanks for the great comments!!!
