Description
The last time I was in the South Atlantic was over 25 years ago when the Rockhopper was both a comical and delightful sight and numbered in the tens of thousands.. From recent talks with a fellow wildlife photographer living on the Falkland Islands, it would seem that the Rockhopper Penguins, are in such precipitous decline that some experts consider them globally threatened. In the Falkland Islands, where hundreds of thousands of Rockhopper Penguins breed each year, the population has dropped by 30 percent in five years. This is a large drop, but the picture becomes even darker when you realize that the population is thought to have dropped by over 80 percent since the 1930s. Are we going to lose the charming and fascinating Rockhopper Penguin? (Lovelace, the colorful oracle penguin in the movie Happy Feet, is a Rockhopper Penguin.)

What an awesome shot .. beautiful bird. Never seen one like this before!
Would indeed be a shame to lose these colourful waterfowl. Wonderful capture. ;-)
Thank you for illustrating your poignant image with the terrible truth. They say that 99.99% of all species that ever lived are extinct; Our turn will come in time, too.
Brilliant work!
Genial Danny... awesome your passion in these shots. Chapeau !
I would hate to lose this guy and his brethen. Here's hoping we do something constructive soon.
Excellent capture,and history.
Never seen this little and cute Penguin before. Maybe it's the first and the last time I see one of them ? Terrible.... and so sad. Beautiful and touching shot.
Beautiful shot Danny, I hope so hard we do not lose them. We have to protect for them to survive. Hugs. Diane.
Your endangered series is very well thought and what is frightening must be the statistics that more species disappear now than ever before. Not a legacy to be proud of, to be sure. Excellent details in your images, always so clear and never over sharpened.
He is soooo cute!! I do hope he becomes protected so we don't lose this adorable and interesting creature! I really am enjoying this series danob!!! Excellent captures...each of them! :-)
