AND NOW BACK TO THE '50!
Space Patrol was a live television science fiction serial aimed at juvenile audiences.
Patterned unabashedly after Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers and Captain Video. A local version weekday version of the program was also aired in Los Angeles. The success of the television show spawned an old time radio version, which ran for 129 episodes from October, 1952 to March, 1955. The same cast of actors performed on both shows.
The stories followed the adventures of Commander Buzz Corry (Ed Kemmer) of the United Planets Space Patrol and his young sidekick Cadet Happy (Lyn Osborn) as they faced nefarious villains with diabolical schemes.
Not surprisingly for the time, some of these villains had Russian- or German-sounding accents.
Cmdr. Corry and his allies were aided by such nifty gadgets as "miniature space-o-phones" and "atomolights." Episodes had such pulp-type titles as "Revolt of the Space Rats" and "The Menace of Planet X".
Portraited here is the "Terra IV" rocketship (mesh by Geodesic, textures by me), the "hero" spaceship of the series.
The render is intentionally "ingenuous" (no complex textures, no bumpmaps) to mark the style of the fifties.

well if it was really based on buckrogers the smoke would go up right after it left ship. witch allways made me wonder why they did not film them vertically. nice model!

It looks like space patrol is late. We must of had enough global warming to where we don't have an atmosphere anymore.lol. great 50's look.
This deffinitley captures the style well, all it needs now are some barely visible strings holding up the models! :-P

Wonderful tribute to a TV show that had a strong influence on my life. I was lucky to be involved with the special edition of the Space Patrol book by Jean-Noel Bassior. There are only 26 of those out there.
This definitely has the cheese factor, you might have rivet bump maps though, on this kool Retro craft, well done ~Cheers~ :o)
