Description
The Amish of northern Ohio, USA, seem to prefer the Belgian horse for heavy work and sometimes the Percheron for pulling wagons. These horses live among those people on farms operated the old ways with a few modern touches.
Horses used to pull buggies for transportation of the Amish are from rescued trotters, light and streamlined horses who make a wonderful click click rhythm along the roads.
This picture was taken in Holmes Co., Ohio on November 18,2006. The big guy was waiting for the days work.

Gorgeous guy!!!! You can also ride them. We had a four-year-old Belgian gelding named Hercules who was huge!!!! But very sweet. He let even the children ride him he was just so wide he hurt your thighs!!! They are very sweet horses. Great shot!!!
Oh! Tom.. I can hear the click, click. Sublime capture of this beautiful, beautiful worker. He is sooooo beautiful :-) Thank ya, Tom. Diane.

I just love those horses, they have a very friendly character and are very good and steady workers... good portrait!
Such sturdy animals. The worlds tallest living horse is a Belgian Draft, named Radar, lives in Iowa. Stands over 19 hands (approx. 6'7") at the withers, and weighs over 2400 pounds. Great post, thanx for tweaking my curious side. ;-)
