Description
The former planet Pluto is associated with the Scorpio star sign. Some people are upset that the planet has been 'downgraded'.
I am a Scorpio and I am going to a dinner party on Saturday night themed 'Scorpios Reclaim Pluto', so I thought a bit of a tongue-in-cheek artist's impression was in order... Best seen full sized.
Made in Bryce 6 using HDRI, took an age to render. Sky matted in later from Artmatic Pro in Photoshop.

To step on my soap box for a moment - Pluto is still a planet: It is now known as a dwarf planet. And it shouldn't affect any astrological chart at all. It is still there, same as it ever was. The only thing that's changed is its designation. If astrology IS, then any terminology our feeble minds come up with is meaningless. And while I may be ignorant about astrology, my knowledge of the solar system makes me highly skeptical about Pluto being attached to any one star sign. Pluto, having been discovered less than 80 years ago (in 1930 at an Arizona, US observatory), was not known to the ancients. And even if they had somehow guessed its existance, Pluto has been all over the sky since then. Pluto, as part of our solar system, is a mere billion or so miles away. This is tiny compared to the trillions upon trillions upon trillions of miles distant the stars of any constellation are. This means that in the 4,000-odd years that the Zodiac has been in use, Pluto has travelled in and out of constellations about 20 times. Again, I'm pretty ignorant about Astrology's inner workings. I did read Wikipedia's entry that Scorpio is somehow "ruled" by Pluto, but that that is a more recent practice. And now that I'm stepping down from my soap box, yes, the image is cute and well done. Good job on the star field. I almost think I can see Orion towards the right.
