Where Gemsbuck roam for Ionel by busi2ness
Open full image in new tabDescription
I would like to dedicate this desert scene to Ionel. This work was inspired by his Oasis.
It is my first upload created with Terragen. Ionel was a tremendous help when I had difficulty in creating a realistic sand surface. The trees, Gemsbuck and skull were copied from my photographs. I am not happy with the appearance of the water and depth of the scene and may redo it later when my skills are better developed. The Kalahari desert was a big influence in my life and I may try my hand at more renders in future.
Any comments and recommendations are highly appreciated - I hope you don't tell me to stop though, LOL!

As a first upload, it's a good work. I suggest some additional layers of sand, with slight variations of color (but not much). In a desert scene, there's multiple colors in the dunes, if you look carefully.
wow! Very impressive image. A first timer and a winner. Excellent job. Aloha
Gorgeous work and very well done. Very good contrast and colours. Is the first time I commnet this type of job, but I see the little trees and animal have diferent light I think.. but all is beautiful. excellent work
nice first image well done
excellent first post!! try reducing the value (alot) on the reflectivity curve slider in the water window...this may enhance the look of the water....keep at it youre doing great!!
Excellent work....!!!!
Wonderful first effort,Piet! It's lovely! I especially like the color combination you've used.I can't give any technical pointers, except to say what may help make it a drop more realistic.I think the gemsbuck need a bit of a shadow to their left, and the water's edge could look a bit more jagged/shaded in places. It's a bit too uniform.I wish I could say how to do that.I'm sorry,I know nothing of this medium.Anyway,it's wonderful.I hope you continue with this. All the very best to you.-M :^)
I cannot advise at all Piet.. I do not do this type of work. To me it is beautiful, a superb first attempt. Keep on keeping on :-) How do I know that you shall. Hey, Piet.. I love your moon :-) Hugs. Di.
Wow... now, this very impressive. LOL@rainbows!! hahaaaa.. ok serious now. I have no clue how to do terragen but I think it is hard to make it look real? This looks real. Carry on! :0)
interesting! thanks for sharing this piece
I have seen many Terragen images, by people doing it for a long time....none as good as this!! I think your time in the bush has given you a keen insight into these kinds of environments. This is awesome!!!
OMG!! I thought it was a photograph!!!! Like Arabian/African desert!! I thought wow! What a 3D looking desert made by terragen, vue and such!! and then again after looking at your posting genere!! DANGGGGGGGGG!!! That is a real render! :)) That is so interesting desert my friend!! And look at all those colours and details! You really did very good on the sand and the terrain!! This is fantastic view and landscapes...love it! Superb shot!!!!
wow this is your first one. This is jaw dropping here
your efforts are far better than mine. I am reluctant to post my feeble attempts. I think your sand is awesome as well the hill
No advice from this end. I'm a Bryce guy and don't know anything about Terragen. Beautiful first attempt!
Awesome creation!!! Oom you should stick to these... I love all the extra little bits you've added in. I think the moon is a bit much but otherwise the whole setup is awesome!!! About your "dislike" for the water - I think it's just out of place really...
wowwwwwww, you make a very good work with this program my friend!!! I like your idea!!! Excellent!!! Godo day and kiss ;)
First image or not, this is an awesome and beautiful image with great colors and a superb sense of scale. Look forward to seeing more!
Fantastic surface, light and wonderful PW...super combination!
Conventional wisdom has it that to achieve the feeling of vastness and expanse, as in a desert scene, the horizon should be no more than a third of the way up the scene. Yeh, maybe more sand layers of varying smoothness, and perhaps some haze to emphasize depth of field. On post work it's a good idea to slightly blur the edges of objects to help them blend into the scene. But having said all that, this is a beautiful scene with an excellent terrain and wonderfully vibrant colours. For a first Terragen upload, it's very well done.
Well done. Effective post work.
WOW!...Fantastic work with that program, is very beautiful!!! Hugsss
Sure it is good for first attempt. Compositon is fine ,and mood of dessert is captured well. Skill with come in time.
Very, very big surprise!!! And look at the comments!!! I'm rally happy for you! It is, indeed, an excellent picture! :)
Wow I think you've done an amazing first piece. I've tried terragan several times and couldn't get the hang of it. I'm impressed. Just keep playing and having fun And you will see vast improvements in no time.
For me this is the difference between taking a photo and making a photo. At the end of the day, it is about being an artist and enjoying your creativity. Nice !!
Welcome to the world of terragen. This is great for your first attempt and I hope you have lots of fun creating those virtual landscapes :-) Hope there's more to come
guess this one is your best over the last two months. almost unreal.
Other than the moon's size, you could have fooled me,Piet. I thought it was real at first glance.
