Description
Vanessa atalanta
One of our most popular butterflies this familiar and distinctive insect may be found anywhere in Britain and Ireland and in all habitat types.
Starting each spring and continuing through the summer there are northward migrations, which are variable in extent and timing, from North Africa and continental Europe. The immigrant females lay eggs and consequently there is an emergence of fresh butterflies, from about July onwards. They continue flying into October or November and are typically seen nectaring on garden buddleias or flowering Ivy and on rotting fruit.
There is an indication that numbers of Red Admirals have increased in recent years, due to the milder weather and that overwintering has occurred in the far south of England.

What a lovely closeup Daniel! Amazing composition as always and interesting pov with awesome colours and details! Thank you for the share.. Have a nice day JOE
We've got a lot of Red Admirals here too in South of France, and in particular on the same flower... the "Lantana". Always a pleasure to see them. You've shot him in a very original position, and the softness of the DOF is superb. You'll always been the Butterfly man for me ;o)))) Hugs Danny, and good evening.
Excellent macro of very beautiful colors and effects of natural lighting too...!!!
Very distintive and a gorgeous specimen. That this is an amazing photo goes without saying -- oops, I said it!
He's a furry little devil, isn't he? Nice capture!

A different POV from the more common ones and very effective. Very bright colours and a pleasant composition.
Just look at those antennas, awesome shot. I wish I had your camera. A beautiful hawk was right outside my window on the grass, but I have a lousy zoom. He sure did spooked my birds. :)
Always a pleasure to view your work. thanx ;-)

oh yes, I know this one, I have someone shots, and is a really beautiful butterfly... Excellent photo Dan, a pleasure for my eyes!!! Good day and hugs ;)
We had a hummingbird for several weeks. Each time I caught a butterfly on a flower out of the corner of my eye it had blurred wings. The soft pulsing of the butterfly was no where to be seen.
