"Mother, Dear, I seem to have made a terrible mess of myself...." It looks like our little one has gotten herself into a bit more than simple mischeif... I was talking this weekend with an old friend....since this week was the first week of school here in Michigan, we were reminiscing on what we did during our first week of school our senior years' of high school.....I remember quite clearly that I was sick of my long, blonde hair, and told my mother that I needed a trim. So, she had my dad take me to the salon to get a trim. And, when my dad left to go to the hardware store, I pulled a picture of Lars Freidricksen (from Rancid) out of my pocket, and said "I want this haircut". 3 hairdressers refused to do it. But, one brave woman said "I'll do it!". We put my hair in 2 braids. And chopped them off. (One went to my best friend, the other to my boyfriend at the time.) When I got out, the first words out of my dad's mouth were "Your mother is going to kill me." It was kind of an "accepting" tone. More of a "I should have been watching you" sort of statement. In the scheme of things? This was 3 weeks after my Senior Pictures had been taken, 2 days after we had the squads' Cheerleading pictures taken, and the afternoon before the first game. And I felt a freedom like no other. I was free from five pounds of long, blonde hair, that people kept telling me made me beautiful. Well, I wanted to be known for ME, the person. Not my goddamn hair. Which is now a fiery, flame-red, thanks to the magic of Henna ;)
