Description
This building is the original smokehouse used by Caddie Woodlawn's family. My daughter just read the series in school so while we were in Menomenee, Wisconsin we stopped to visit. It is located in a park which is also a historical marker. I hope to have more photos from this trip.
Thanks for you visit and comments on this and previous posts.

Shades of the Civil War! That little structure looks just like something out of the old photos from that era, except it's in color/colour. Nice atmospheric mood and composition, Jodie. Glad you enjoyed the trip.
What a shot my friend Jodie!! I agree with goodoldboy in the first comment!! Really looks so old expect the tones and colours!! Amazing POV and lighting management! Thank you for the post and have a nice day JOE
If it weren't for the manicured lawn it stood on, you'd believe this was taken the year it was built. Nice shot.
I am sure a lot of American history and hardship is recalled in this display. Great presentation Jodie!
Beautiful capture. Isn't it amazing how close -- and yet how far -- in time we are to low-tech systems like this?
But....i see no smoke? HEY!!!! YOU TRICKED US WITH YOUR TITLE!!!! Shame on you...PFFFFFFFFT! #:oP So what was it for? Did they go out after dinner and have a smoke....or did they smoke eel there? Well whatever it is....its just lovely. I could sure use it in my backyard to park my lawnmower in, lol. Have a wonderful day! #:O)
great find and shot !
LOL@Andreas & go out for a smoke... I'm pretty sure a smokehouse is where the butchered meat was hung to cure. The fire inside the smokehouse would permeate the meat and that shank of pork would become ham! I don't know how the salt was added...before the smoking, I think. Thanks Andreas, now I have to go look it up~!
Really nice photo/story. Good post ;-)
This is excellent.. Reminds me of one that is my Uncle's backyard Picture perfect Hugs Susan~
Well seen and captured. Lovely image Jodie:)
wonderful old smokehouse !! i bet lots of yummy meats were cured in there!!! facinating to see this piece of american history!
That majestic pine certainly seems to dwarf the smokehouse; or is that an optical trick of perspective? Cool capture!
Hi Jodie! What a great picture! Love the setting and the pine tree near the cabin! Have a great weekend! Best wishes Suresh
