Description
Greetings everyone! I've been away on holliday for a couple of weeks which means that I've been "away" from my computer as well. I run a remote desktop on my XP so I can play with Poser in any internet cafe but the interface is rather slow. My thanks to those who left comments on my last rendering. I'm hoping to do some catching up real soon.
I recently watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time in years. The film is, to my mind, the best motion picture ever made. And watching the movie I aquired the inspiration for this particular rendering. Indeed, as I worked on this picture, I continually heard the Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss playing in my head. "The Cosmic Ballet goes on.", as Leonard Nimoy has said.
Some pre-production work on the star field was done with GIMP 2.2.
Special thanks to those artists and scientists who provided the free contributions that were used in this rendering:
Wolfie at www.wolfiesden.com for the Moon/Planet prop.
James Hastings-trew at http://planetpixelemporium.com/ for the maps of the Earth.
NASA for the Tycho star map.

An excellent space shot, I like the forbidding darkness lit only by the sun. Great render!
I love this image..The lighting is great, makes me feel like I was orbiting and able to look out the window and see this....Exceptional work.
A differant view in the rendering like old space paintings I saw in the 1960's
Very nicely done.
