Description
One wonderful bird absent in Europe is the splendid Red Cardinal, but is the state bird of several US States not hard to see why..
The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a member of the cardinal family of birds in North America. The bird's name comes from the red-robed Roman Catholic Cardinals. Its crested head is also said to resemble a bishop's mitre. Cardinals have been also referred to as redbirds and Virginia nightingales. Cardinals were once popular cage birds for their bright colour and rich, varied songs.

I have been trying to get a clean shot of a Cardinal for along time (got plenty of mediocre ones). One skittish bird. This is great :):):) Thanx ;-)
I was out on the porch with a cup of coffee watching a male in my front yard just this morning and two females feeding in the grass last evening. They are among my favorite birds. I never tire of seeing them or listening to their wonderful songs. Lovely shot, sir.
Oh how beautiful - what a cracking shot this is! We are so lucky to be able to see images like this from talented photographers who can also give us info. Thank you!
Such a vibrant and beautiful bird. Excellent shot and lovely presentation. CC
Beautiful! I've never seen one in real life, but have several Chrismas ornaments and one painting. They have a mystique of sorts, I think. Thanks for the true-to-life glimpse, Danny.
Sweet shot of this beautiful cardinal!
Very good image clarity and DOF. Wish I could see these birds in real life, their cousins to the south are really drab birds.
