Description
Before the politically correct folks started woofin'(Don't get me started!)the Commemorative Air Force was the Confederate Air Force. The CAF folks have the world's only flying Boeing B-29 Superfortress. I took this picture at an air show about 15 years ago. Sorry about not timing the pass right and missing the tail in my frame, but doesn't she really look impressive roaring by? When she isn't out amazing crowds, FIFI lives at CAF HQ in Midland, Texas. I took the pic with my trusty Canon AE1 and a 200mm telephoto lens.

WOW i love this Plane i took a tour and a flight in this at an air show near where i live just last year.. awesome plane with a great history.
living in Texas, I would think that I would have seen this magnificent bird. they always are at air shows around Texas. I hope it is is still flying. the Confederate a f has had several crashes that destroyed the old birds including the pilot/crew. excellent capture even with no tail

While I admire the folks keeping these museum pieces alive, I really wish they would stop glorifyng the greatest act of treason in US history. As for the tail, so what? It's still a nice shot! White, though?????
@David: It's actually painted a light grey. However, I have seen photos of a few in olive drab over grey! Most of the B-29s had a natural metal finish as was customary for USAAF planes at the end of WWII. I don't think the CAF name has anything to do with glorifying the Confederacy of the 1860s. The men that founded the CAF lived in the south and west and gave it that name with tongue in cheek.
Great shot! Too bad about the tail. I've heard they were high maintenance aircraft and they didn't get proper servicing because of the theater of combat. PT boats had the same problem. Their engines ran double the TBO and had names like "Coughin'Coffin"

Nice shot of this impressive aircraft. I recently visited some B29 info sites to try and get some info on the missions they flew learning that some flew out of China as well as the more well known pacific island bases. They seemed to cover incredible distances.
I remember when they kept her at the Confederate Air Force Museum in Harlingen, TX, across from my old High School, Marine Military Academy.
Very cool, my father was in the Air Force and when I was a kid me and a friend would sneek into the old 29's they kept in the reserve museum. Nice shot -- Bravo Zulu.
How very sad they had to change the name....hope Fifi's still flying!!
It's a grand looking plane. Would love to see one. Seen B-17's, B-25's and the like but never this one. Maybe I'll get over one day! Great picture.
Great capture Rog. Yes, it is difficult sometimes to get the perfect shot, but by her attitude she probably came a little faster than you anticipated. I am with you on the CAF - to me it will always be Confederate Air Force - no matter what the do-gooders say. BTW, I think there will be a second flyable B-29 soon..
