Description
Nikon 7900 image.
I have taken very few photos outside at night or in situations where the flash was needed, however, last week I was looking for a tool I had left in the carport, and I came upon this big mama spider with her eggs. The overhead light did nothing to illuminate the situation, so there was no choice but to use the flash if I intended to get a pic of her.
I am prettty sure it is a Wolf Spider and she was almost as big as the palm of my hand. I got several shots of her and when I downloaded them to my computer, I noticed several things I had not seen untill then. Firstly, she definitely has a "wolf" look to her face and secondly, there appears to be a red fang protruding from the right side of her mouth. It is visible in the left photo but is much more noticable in the right one. I really don't know if it is indeed a fang, but it sure looks like one, lol.
In an upcoming posting, I have a couple of pics of a Rabid Wolf Spider ( not related to the Wolf Spider) and it appears to have a similar red fang. This touch of bright red color did nothing to minimize the scary look of spiders that essentially are harmless to humans.
I hope the pic was worth the click and thanks to all who view and comment. Both are appreciated.

WOW! Loove at all of those eggs!!! Awesome find.
I'd say your first guess is right: Wolf spider.
I'm not a spider fan but as spiders go, neat shot. Was very interesting to look at even though it gave me the willies. The details (eggs, details, fang) were extremely interesting. One of those things you hate but have to look at anyway. Cool shot.
Great shot. Spider, not so much! Wonderful find on your part, and the photo turned out very well. HUGS!!!
Great photo of a creepy subject. Like the info provided with it. By the way, were you ever able to identify that other spider (the red and black one)?
