Description
Notice round engine cowling. Later models had oval cowling to accommodate the oil coolers. Notice jack at the back. They have a tendency to be tail heavy on the ground. There is a B-17 B-24 debate. The B-24 could carry more bombs had a farther range and had a retractable ball turret. The B-17 could sustain and return home with major damage. Every one has their favorite bomber. Only two are known to be airworthy.

Really nice shot. This B-24A (redesignated LB30 by the British) was one of first twenty-seven B-24s (including seven YB-24s) built. It would be nice to see it parked next to the Smithsonian's B-17C/D Swoose Goose.

Awesome shot! That looks like the nose of a C141 to the left of this. I love the air shows that have the old and new. So fun to see some of the old prop jobs and it still amazes me they all fly.
I was able to walk through a B24 and b25 recently and it is amazing how tight the quarters are. a large man could not fit through the passage ways. excellent capture. I have some in my gallery also

Outstanding photo of Diamond Lil! I see a silver B-17 flying around here all the time, but I cannot remember the name. I cannot remember ever seeing a B-24 flying, although I did tour through Diamond Lil in Colorado Springs in the 80's.
The B24 and the B17 were both great bombers. I particularly like the B25, myself. I also enjoy Airshows! Miramar AFB and Edwards AFB are my favorites. (I miss El Toro.)
Great shot and commentary. I heard the same story and I also heard that the crews of the B-17 liked their aircraft better than the crews of the B-24 like theirs. I also heard that the B-17 was better suited for crash landings than the B-24 and crash landings were sometimes unavoidable!
