Description

Martya gently opened the door to the royal throne room to be quiet as possible. She had already made a pass through to grab a bunch of bisquits and some kind of curly bugs on a skewer. She wanted some more of those curly, spicy hot and sweet crunchy what-ever they weres. A very tall, muscular man stood by the door talking with a short, young Basteti female. They stopped as Martya almost ran up onto them. Martya froze and said, "Hi, there! I see the reception thingy is still going on. Ehrrrrrrr,ummm.....have you tried the curly bugs on a stick? Oh my GOD! I could live off that stuff!" Agrafah stood over the young intruder, one hand on his sword. Sreevahatchepsut watched the Scav woman, with her hand next to her pulse-blaster pistol, and her tail lashing the air. Sree snapped, "NO admittance without invitation!" Agrafah raised an eyebrow at Martya and asked in a low voice that was like rolling thunder, "Did you know that I made them? 'Curly bugs' are steamed crayfish. Old style Scavieal bar-be-que sauce, too. I brought them for the King." Martya stared with open admiration at the old Scav and grabbed his right hand and pumped it with enthusiasm, saying, "You are my new favorite person! Those curly bugs--I mean crayfish are fantastic! I never had such good food before. I mean my mom died in childbirth and dad could only cook when he had time. That was as good as my dad could make! And that really says something, because he was a good a cook as he was a warrior!" She looked around and said, "I've got to go talk to the king. I have to go on an OP with his son and my brother. I've had visions that something really bad would happen if I didn't go with them." Agrafah stared at Martya for a moment and jerked his head at the pavalion at the top of another flight of stairs and said with a slight smile, "He's goofing around over there with his buddies and wife. I'm sure he wouldn't mind you interupting him. He appreciates young women with brains and personality." Martya beamed and sighed with a little squeal, "God! You are so sweet! I'm so glad I ran into a regular guy! You must be the best butler here! Thanks! Gotta go!" Martya trotted off in the direction that Agrafah indicated, while Sree sputtered and choked. Sree asked Agrafah, "High lord Agrafah, Caliph of the Holder of memory of the Scavieal people,,,how can you stand such insolence from one of your own people!??" Agrafah put his hands on his hips and scowled at her with a withering glance and rumbled, "She reminds me of my oldest daughter. My oldest may be queen, but that doesn't stop her from being her! I always respect people true to themselves." Sree blinked and looked confused. She was thinking that she would never understand these strange people.
