Description
"A good character is the best tombstone.
Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you
when forget-me-nots have withered.
Carve your name on hearts, not on marble."
-Charles Haddon Spurgeon
A little fawn sculpture on the tomb of Maurice Lynwood Atkinson in a St. Marys, Georgia cemetery.
I was intrigued by the tenderness of the fawn, and the lichens and ferns that have begun to grow upon it. Maurice lived for 80 years upon this planet and this is probably everything I will ever know about the man. It makes one ponder life's mysteries...

Quite a wonderful image. I find life not to be a mystery at all; now death, that is quite mysterious... however, I am a rather strange sort :-) I really like this!
I really like this photo.Wonderful shot of the Fawn covered with Lichen against the gravestone. A great sense of permanence defying the actual death. Wonderful image. Excellent !!! V
What a thoughtful upload,Kortalouche.Your words really enhance this 'dark' somewhat gothic-looking image.I love how the moss gives the impression that life still goes on...Well done and worthy of contemplation...Now...what the heck does caliginous mean?LOL that's a new one on me.I'll have to go look it up right now!I hate when I don't know what something means!Have a wonderful weekend,my friend.Excellent work,as always.-M :^)
i like to go to cematarys and look around and think about those who lived here before ... ( just havnt done as much since my Dad passed a few years ago ) beautiful little deer to remember by touching Kort...
Ditto, what Marlene said! Love the textures and the lighting! Like the greek statues, this has been painted. Very interesting!!!
Very interesting piece! That lichen does give the image a hint of the surreal or something... As for my last comment being caliginous, I apologize - I know I can be a jerk sometimes but I guess my words were uncalled for... LOL - I'm with Margana, I have no idea what that word means +++
I like very much this statue, is very sweety for a dear person of the cemetary and you have a perfectly texture and lighting too... Good work my friend ;) good day and kiss
Indeed, thought-provoking, what do we leave after our departure.... Something to reflect on. Gorgeous work, Kort!

Must have been for someone very much loved and you captured perfectly:):):)..V
Even though the fawn sits as if waiting for the return of someone. I find this to be a very warm and touching memento. Great shot. HUGS!!

A wonderful and thoughtful image....BRAVO!!!!
If only they had shot Bamby at the BEGINNING of the movie!
A superb image, Kort! Such tenderness is here, Spurgeon's words are beautiful. Maurice must have been a dearly loved man, for his family to place such a memorial for him. Sublime work, as always.
