Description
Shoot Info - Shot Wednesday, Mar 15, 2006. The goal was to recreate World War 2 era (1940s) pin-ups and Military Aircraft nose-art of the time as best as possible with limited resources. The shoot was shot with a High Key backlight and purposly trying to make the models look more washed out for an artistic painted mimic.
Model - Catherine Allen. She's expierienced in Pin-Up photography, which made for some great ideas on the spot! A lot of fun to work with!
Photo Notes - There was one pose that I saw in a book on WW2/1940's pin-up art that had a gal in a Sailor's uniform looking back over her shoulder. It was featured on a calendar in the early 40s. It really stood out to me, so I wanted to give it a try this time around. While not exactly a Sailor's uniform, personally I like how this turned out better even though on top of that she's not hearing the USAAF Cap. She captured the serious, mysterious, yet still a bit playful and teasing pose very well here. One of my favorites of this round of the shoots.
Photo Details - Taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 5D (12mp) and Canon 28-105mm USM lens. Shot at a studio where I work in Anaheim, CA.

yes you did a very super pin up here. I saw some in a book one time and I was impress too. This do look a lot like the ww2 stuff
love your hair, only one thing though wheres her legs ?got to have legs .
kettledrum, the original pin-up which I was trying to closely match actually showed even less! It was cropped just above the elbow. I wanted to follow it pretty close, but wanted it to be a bit less tight on the crop.
you did a wonderful job with that whole 40s calender look looking back over her shoulder .. wonderfully done .. i wonder if they had hair that bright red then !!.,.. she is beautiful!
Great model. Maybe Kettledrum's right. Remember Betty Grable? I'm sure Ms Allen has pretty legs. Do you really have to imitate originals (especially since you don't let us compare)? Still, this is a wonderful image. I even like the total lack of background. Excellent job! I'm looking forward to more of these great pictures.
Another Excellent picture.
chips7, I did take one pulled out with her legs, but this one is a lot better looking I believe. That being said, I do actually have to get pretty close to the originals because of the reason the shots are being taken, but I usually take a few variations of each pose (close up, pulled out, alternate angle, etc) Thanks for the comments everyone!
That coy, over-the-shoulder look is very typical for that period. Excellent work (yet again)!
Very pretty model, and I sure like this style.
Excellent work ! :~)
