Description
Shot Monday, Feb 27, 2006. The goal was to recreate World War 2 era (1940s) pin-ups and Military Aircraft nose-art of the time as best as possible with limited resources. The shoot was shot with a High Key backlight and purposly trying to make the models look more washed out for an artistic painted mimic. Turned out very well!
Model is Elizabeth Ashley. Great great model, she's one of the best I've ever worked with.
Fantastic ideas and a pleasure to photograph!
Sorry to say everyone, this is the last of this series! While I shot many more photos, these were the bests of the bests. But, I have another 5 models lined up to do the shoots as well, in the same and different uniforms and clothings. Each shoot is unique (I'd done two so far, Elizabeth was actually the second). So, I'll start another series of one of the different models once I shoot them (have a shoot tomorrow evening actually with a professional 1940's pin-up recreation model).
So, to end this wonderful series with Elizabeth, I'm ending it with a nearly perfect recreation of a WW2 Pin-Up/Nose-Art. The playing cards are vintage WW2 'Spotter Cards' (playing cards with USA & Britain (Allies) and Germany & Japan (Axis) aircraft profiles on them in the hopes that the GIs in WW2 after using the cards and carrying them with them could learn the profiles of aircraft so they could figure out what they were from the ground... friend or foe). While her dress is not perfect to the real thing, the pose and the spreading of the cards is pretty close. Hope you all enjoyed the 1940's series!!
Taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 5D (12mp) and Canon 28-105mm USM lens. Shot at a studio where I work in Anaheim, CA.

I have throughly enjoyed your 40's series. All has been very well done. Yes, congrats to the model, too. She makes these shots even more "authentic" and has a joyous face. Thanks for a truly fun and super series of photos.
Mmm, I would've guessed early 60's from the fashion of her dress and necklace... BUT nonetheless an outstanding photo. This series has been a thrill to watch -- A+ for Nostalgia! You've truly re-created the lost innocence of an earlier era. Bravo!!!
