Description
The interlude continues with this oddity.
I was walking home, 1.3 megapixel digital camera in hand,
when I spotted this bird sitting on my housemate's car.
Milwaukee actually has quite a few hawks and other raptors.
I usually don't have a camera handy when I spot them.
(Certainly not the Minolta with the telephoto lens!)
I was waiting at the bus stop on Brady and Prospect.
The street is lined by apartment towers taking advantage of the lake view.
Well, orbitting one of the towers' 8th floor was a hawk.
His attention was on a balcony where a terrier stood.
From the hawk's and the dog's actions, I wondering if they were trying to figure out what each other was.
And were they edible?
A couple months ago, I was waiting in the parking lot of the SPCA.
I looked up and realized another hawk was orbiting, gliding in 100' circles centered on Wisconsin Avenue,
each circle a little further east.
There must have been a good updraft, as the hawk rarely had to flap his wings to maintain his altitude.

real good shot.
I know the feeling...often I wish I had my good camera with me while out and about instead of my smaller one.
Remarkable find of this hawk on the car, certainly not a hitch hiker though!? ;) Wonderful work! :)
I know how you feel about seeing things and not having a camera. I saw my first Bald Eagle a couple of weeks ago within 4 miles of my house. He was just flying along over the Fox River and then I noticed across the river...just sitting in a tree was his mate! Had I had any camera, both would have made great shots. Your hawk here seems a little more tolerant of Human Stuff. We've got hundreds of Red Tail Hawks by us but I've never seen one sitting on a car.
It's rare to see birds of prey so close to the ground unless there is a tasty snack near. They like to sit on top of street lights here in Texas cities. Gotta admire his guts if he thought he could take on a terrier. Excellent opportunity capture!
Now that's a true neighbourhood watch program. good shots.
