Description
I think these are actually young Cypress trees, which are beautiful in maturity, but are ugly (imho), almost mutant-looking as babies.
Thanks for looking, have an absotively, posilutely beautimous Saturday!

Looks really lovely!!!!!!Bravo!V:DDD
i dont think they are ugly at all!! really cool work i even see a bird in there!! ...cool shot!
I do not find them ugly either! This world is full of unbelievable beauty, sometimes bordering on science fiction. I have only just begun to really look... You did a great job capturing these 'mutants' though - good dof, light/contrast - +++
Never thought Cypress knees were ugly either (chacun son gout) :o)
OK, truth be told - I don't really think they're ugly either, just seriously strange. However, "Ugly Babies" is only a title, and - I thought - a better one than any other that sprang into mind. They really are beautiful though, in their own peculiar way. Thanks for your invaluable comments!
I can't remember the exact name for these, but if I can remember right, they're "anchors" for the big trees, they send their roots down and send the "anchors" up for extra support in all that swamps muddiness. I learned about these while living in Ms. and traveling the Natchez Trace. There is "learning signs" all over the trails and thats where they teach you about the roots! Cool capture of these awesome things!
They are called Cypress Knees :-) I have a shot of some in my gallery but they aren't has pretty as yours. Excellent shot of them!
Great capture of those Nature's sculptures! We have some less beautiful in our Modern Art Museum!lol Have a nice week-end!
There is a lot of those roots all along the rivers and lakes, and their shape are alway impressive! HAve a great evening
Only a root that a mother tree could love..lol..great image.
Aren't these air-roots (cypress-knees, as I read here above), and these a wonderful, like wooden people standing there! Great find, excellent work, Troy! :)
The tour of North Carolina continues. Never seen this sort of thing--but then I'm a west coast person. Who knew?
