Description
Taken at the 2005 Edwards Air Force Base Airshow in October. For more aviation images, please visit http://www.warbird-photos.com
Probably one of the few aircraft that never cease to amaze anyone that it can fly, even those who may not like aircraft. The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III makes a low dirty pass over the crowd line at the airshow. Contrary to how she may look, she's very agile and can bank rather sharply. One fact that most people don't realize is that it can take off & land on runways as short as 3,000 ft and as narrow as 90 ft! The C-17 is operated mostly by Air Mobility Command Units and Airlift Wings of the Air Force Reserve. The engines, P&W F117-PW-100, are the same as the commercial versions on a Boeing 757. Many of the C-17s are built still at the Boeing plant at Long Beach Airport, California. This facility is dubbed as the 'Home of the C-17' and many C-17s fly in and out of the Long Beach Airport for repairs.
The C-17 is LOUD, very loud and almopst defaning when it makes a pass over.
Taken with a Canon Rebel XT EOS 350D DSLR Camera (8mp) and a Canon 100-400mm USM IS F.45L lens.

Nice shot never saw it from this angle. I got out of the force befor ethey got into service. (I am an old git.) Reminds me of a C-130 a bit the way the wheels are.
Perfect capture !!! ;)
It looks very rather small here, but living close to an Air Force Base, I know how huge they are. Nice shot.
Impressive capture of this impressive bird carrying so many people! :)
Wonderful capture!!! Bravo :)
only fantastic!!
outstanding shot, and very sharp, even to the insides of the wheelwells.
When living outside the 'outer loop' around San Antonio, these guys often made passes over our house on their way to doing TOLs. A few C5's for variety as well. The loudness was really not all that bad. The BAD part was every freaking %$#@! dog in the neighborhood had to comment on them.
FANTASTICV
another very fine capture. I walked through one of these with no escort, before they intended on opening it. no one was there so I invited my self in. what is more amazing is once you are in the fuselage it is so damn huge
Just beautiful!!! So glad I've found your gallery!!!! sorry but I think I'll be making a lot of comments ;-)
