Description

About Startling Stories: Startling Stories was a pulp science fiction magazine which also published a lot of science fantasy. A companion magazine to Thrilling Wonder Stories and Captain Future Magazine, it published 99 issues from 1939 to 1955. It was edited by Sam Merwin from 1945 to 1951. About this artwork: I'm a great Sci-Fi fan (read as "OTAKU"). I love especially the classic Sci-Fi, with rockets, bug eyed monsters, things from outer space and stuff like that. As you can see in my gallery (and also in my store) there are many "retrofuturistic" works and stuff. I had made also some "fake" Sci-Fi pulp covers, but I've ever find them still "too 3D". Browsing on Renderosity, I've find the works of Mikeall (take a look to his wonderful artworks), a great artist who work as me around the Sci-Fi and Adventure vintage pulp covers. He achieved the effect that I ever want to find, and inspire me how to make "realistic" pulp covers: here you can see the my result. Comments, rates and votes are welcome as always! :)

Nicely done. I believe Frederick Pohl wrote some pieces for this mag,.........could be wrong though.

I'd say you have hit the mark very nicely! You have captured that 'geewhiz' sci-fi sense very well. Good work.

I think the result is wonderful. Just the right feel to it.

Agree with all the above. Good colour-compliments and strong image with an obvious message. There is a scale issue with the figure and the closer flying saucer! An overlap maybe? Nice work.
