Great job. Interesting question too. You would probably never be able to tell when you were at zero real velocity. But your relative speed would be what mattered anyways.

Rendering your ship in negative makes it look like a traditional Federation ship! Just ignore the soot spraying out from the vents where the lights should be. -- As for your idea, I had a thought along those lines, the "Absolute Inertia Drive" in which the ship can cancel its movement in a specific direction.
That's not soot. That's the floodlights on the ship as a photonegative.
