Description
It's either a wasp nest or a hornets nest. Never saw one this close up before. Normally these are high in trees but this one is sitting at the edge of a branch only about 4 feet off the ground on the edge of a forest. I am now worried about the deer that roam there getting stung.
Thank goodness this sucker was inactive when I spotted it. I do think it would have been more interesting to have taken the shot with a few of the little buggers flying on or around it, but this will do..... for now.

I didn't know there was a difference - great shot tho, closer than i'd get. Got stung 7 times in the face 2 summers ago, never again, so i'll just look at this smiles. BTW, see you're not raising the critical stings with this one, like some earlier posts.... Well done there too.
Thank you dragonfly, give the masses time to hand out the stings, I am sure I will get at least one. Some people should just keep their comments to themselves or at the very least, send your rudeness to me privately. Hugs dragon
You got closer than I'd ever get! Fascinating subject! Their nest is a real work of art.
