The way that the paint makes the facial texturing so apparent is amazing. Almost like revealing the hidden aspects. Like saying, "Here I am, accept me or not...I am me, and I am you.." Does that sound corny?

Very nice contrast between dark and light and need not say the texture of the composition adds a unique play to the image.
