Description
I needed a good clunky-looking airliner to be seen from the outside catwalks of the great Zeppelin. (Check the Zeppelin images a little farther down the line.) I found the Antonov... Russian, just after the Revolution. The Russians never shied away from giantism in aircraft. This one was the ANT-20, "Maxim Gorky". The first of the ANT-20's was commissioned by the Soviet Writers Guild. It toured the new Soviet Union flashing propaganda messages from lights under the wings. It had a telephone switchboard, printing press, telegraph, and cinema on board. It met with disaster when a flashy fighter pilot attempted an outside loop beneath it. Apparently he thought to complete the loop safely under the wings. He miscalculated and slammed into the wing between engines #3 & #4, killing himself and firmly wedging his plane into the wing. The Maxim Gorky staggered in the air, stalled and began to break up, scattering telephone equipment, film cameras and citizens all over the landscape.

Out of all your beautiful planes I have to say that this is my favorite one. I love the heavy clunky bulkiness of it. How about a Fat Super Heavy Clunky Bulky War Zepplin? I'd love to see you do that, make it huge and fat!
Quikp51...Glad you like the lovely, lumpy airplanes of the 30's. AY! Have I got a Zeppel;in for you? Check out down the line, boobie.
