Description
"Hellllllooooooooooo."
The Giant Tortoise seems to be a thoughtful, wise creature. Maybe that is because most can live over 100 years and some have been recorded to live up to 200 years. That is a long life to spend living in the same house! ;] That is also a long time to live in captivity, which is where I found this tortoise. It was part of a run-down "nature sanctuary" in central Florida. It was in an approximately 20 x 20 foot pen with 3 other tortoises. I can't help but think I see some sadness at it's plight in those expressive eyes. ----- Gal

I agree that he would be more at home in nature but zoos are a way of life for animals. superb capture of this beautiful beast-V
beautifull portrait!but not sure to be ready for a kiss!
OOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! What a cool close-up! Maybe thats why they always looks so grumpy...they keep getting lenses stuffed in theif faces, LOL. Awesome capture Kort! Simply AWESOME!!! Have a great sunday #:O)

Don't really know why the pen them up, could be weeks for them to escape...then how far could they go? Nice detail in this close up..there is some sadness in those eyes....Great shot Kort! Aloha!
Wow thats a bit too close for comfort !! ;o) Stunning close up here, superb detail !! :o)
Terrific closeup of a interesting subject, so much character in that face and eyes, really fits the title:):):):):):)
Wonderful close-up capture here. Not a lot of room for the creatures too live in probably for the rest of their lives. A true life sentence for them.
Looks like ET! Muuah!
Now this looks like my uncle Louie and probably as grumpy as he was too! lol I'm sure these creatures know something we don't. Especially not being bombarded with commercialism and all. The look in this beings eye suggests contentment and that we are in for a rude awakening. I would also venture to say the eyes might be conveying to all the photographers who took pictures, "Get a life"! lol KP
Or boredom! Poor creature! Should be roaming free, though it might not live as long, it would be a richer exsistence! Great portait of a noble reptile!
Very impressive and interesting shot... structures and details look so real! Awesome work!!!
Oh wow, first thought was ET but this is a giant tortoise! With its age it can have recorded a lot of visual impressions! Impressive closeup, Kort!
Probably the most impressive shot I've seen here for several weeks!... I'm in a hurry but I'll come back to read the text... But the shot! Can't believe my eyes... I came back and read the text... Sadness, you're right! I finally found somebody who dares to write this about those "nature sanctuaries" (I like the use of ")... Well done, dear!
