Description
Oedemera nobilis: this peculiar beetle has strange-looking swellings on its hind femurs. This appears to be a sexually-selected character: used by males to demonstrate fitness to females. This type of adaptation is widespread in insects and birds, but there is still debate about the circumstances in which such features evolve.
It was crawling over this plant which I liked as it threw off a lovely green light
Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

A lovely image here Dan...thanks for the info on this little bugger~ Aloha~
brilliant find !!!! such a show off he is, all puffed up like that, I hope the females notice?? LOL!!!!!
an odd one alright... the whole image seems to glow ;]
A little beauty you have perfectly captured :)) the POV and the surroundings colours are beautiful too :))
I don't think this little bugger evolved, I believe it was created by an intelligent and creative God! Just like the giraffe...how many tries do you think it took evolution to get it right when it lowers it's head... without blowing it's brains out with blood pressure...I think it took God one time! []/;^)
very nice capture!
Neat beetle! And, the coloring is awesome! :^)
