Entry #8

THE ENCOUNTER

It was at my 8th birthday.

It had been snowing for weeks and the snow was already up to my waist.

I ran across the meadow in front of our house and struggled through the snow to the edge of the forest. when my dog Smitty suddenly started barking excitedly and smelled something in the forest.

Suddenly he became very quietly and you could hear just the wind which moved the snow covered trees back and fore.

This was the moment I've seen her the first time.

My mother told me very often stories about them from bygone times. Some people said they didn't even exist, that all the stories were just fairy tales but I knew they were real, even if I've never seen one and didn't know anyone who would have talked about an encounter.

Even though it was snowing and very cold, I only felt warmth as she got closer. She was beautiful and moved very slowly. She left no traces in the snow and was enveloped in a light like a summer sunrise.

When she was very close she gently touched my face and whispered softly in a foreign language words in my ear. Although I didn't know the words, I knew exactly what they meant.

When she disappeared again, I ran home to tell my mother about my encounter.

Just as I was about to start, she took me in her arms and said with a smile: "she will always watch over you now and you will never be lonely".

I kept going to the snowy spot at the edge of the forest for many years and waited, but she never appeared again.

Today I have children of my own and I often tell them stories about a world and the beings that live in it, that you can't see but exist anyway.

And sometimes there are encounters where these worlds meet.

In many special moments in my life I suddenly had this feeling of warmth and closeness

and heard very softly whispering words in a foreign language that brought a smile to my face.
