Entry #7

Halloween Haunts US

It comes late, these haunted souls
along dark paths on empty streets
to haunt the ears of young or old
to shake the windows, make doors creak
To make dogs howl from comfy beds
and kittens yowl into the dark
no man or woman is exempt
from ghosts that roam these parts
They stalk the foolish out at night
In droves, or each alone
They stalk by house, by dark or light
They stalk by mail or phone
Peering in through window panes
frosting up your glass
steps that follow soft behind
and fear that holds you fast
There is no escaping them;
Ghostly beings from beyond,
Their weary desperate voices raise
Their endless quest goes on:
"Did you? Will you?" they moan, they beg
"Did you not yet go??" they croak
Their final words, so they beseech:
"Did you go and place your vote?!"

*inspired by the spectres of voting ads and signs on every street, floating and fluttering like haunts, showing on windows, flickering on screens, even haunting possessed email addresses and mail boxes. Sometimes heard wailing through the phones late at night. Some may even hear the footsteps of those before them, calling them to the polls*

*+PS This is NOT a vote solicitation of any kind nor any kind of affiliation is indicated within! Just modernized haunting.... Read at your own risk!**

***Readers may find symptoms of nausea, heart palpitation, nightmares of the future, rapid-channel turning-syndrome, and obsessive-compulsive fact-checking habits appearing upon reading. This may be a sign that you, too, are afflicted with the haunting. Readers beware!***
