Inspired by Doris Lessing’s novel “The Memoirs of a Survivor,” this story examines the horror and despair of a mother as humanity is overtaken by a new, seemingly alien generation of children whose very existence brings death and destruction.


I wrote it in several hours, then spent a couple of days editing and revising.
