Every child has at one point tried to stay awake long enough to see Santa come down the chimney knowing full well that if they are caught they go on the naughty list. But we all have done it because of the magic of Christmas. This was the inspiration for this piece. I wanted to create an image that was very traditional in look without becoming to cartoony. For that reason I chose Nursoda Hein Santa and Sadie for the little girl. Just to add interest I gave Santa a helper toon elf. I looked at many different locations but the mansion study had this wonderful open fireplace and with Christmas past there was an abundance of toys and goodies I could use. The lighting however was a pain but well worth the effort. The two passes took around four hours to render and then they went straight into Paintshop for the post work. The whole thing took around a day to complete from beginning to end.
