INSPIRATION:Traveling to Kenya and song Do they know it's Christmas? In year 1984 Bob Geldof and Band Aid released a song Do They Know It's Christmas? to raise money for relief of the famine in Ethiopia. There's a line in lyrics saying: »And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time/The greatest gift they'll get this year is life« In september 2010 I visited an orphnage in Kenya. It was a very special experience to me. Many of those children lost their parents because of aids. They're facing a great poverty, but are ready to learn, to fight for better life. And this is something that puts a smile on your face. They don't have enough books, pencils and they're so happy if somebody donates these things. But they're also happy when they get toys. They're just children, with dreams and wishes. Children who like playing with colorful baloons and blowing bubbles. And they dream about snow and have so many questions about what is it like in winter in »our world«. I believe we have only one world and that all children of this world deserve to have a happy childhood. MY PICTURE: I think a perfect holiday, as shown on my picture, would be to see a childhood dream – dream of snow in Africa - come true. Blowing bubbles is like dreaming. And snow in a bubble in the middle of Africa is a dream come true for an african child. And snow is really just a symbol of not living in poverty, symbol of childhood dreams come true, symbol of happiness. ABOUT MY WORK: I used a cut from a photo of children blowing bubbles that I took in Kenya in september 2010 and another photo of winter landscape I took few years ago near my home. For simple photo manipulation I used Corel Paint Shop Pro and Ulead Photo Impact. Working on this picture took me about an hour. Realizing what a perfect holiday is to me, took me a lifetime. Happy holidays!
