The Legend of Bloody Mary. Who can forget the scary story of Bloody Mary, the evil spirit who will drag you thru the mirror and scratch your eyes out when summoned? The legend claims that the evil woman can be summoned by chanting "Bloody Mary" 3 times into a mirror anywhere in a darkened room lit only by candlelight. The malevolent spirit will then appear in the mirror and pull you through it, never to be seen or heard from again. After learning the Legend of Bloody Mary while surfing the Internet at a slumber party at Tanya's house, she and her friends, Mia and Susan, decided to put the ghastly folk legend to a test. At midnight they lit three candles, one of which was put one by Tanya's antique dressing mirror. Laughing and giggling they stood, hand in hand, in front of the old mirror with Tanya at the center. They began to chant.... Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary.. A faint wispy vapor appeared to form in the glass of the old mirror. Whirling slowly, casting thin sinuous tendrils out from its murky center, it glowed ever so slightly with an eerie red phosphorescence. Peering into the depths of the candlelit mirror, Tanya took a hesitant step closer. “Look at this†she said with a bit of a quiver in her voice . “What are you looking at?†Mia asked, knitting her brows and trying to peer past Tanya into the mirror. A dark, sinister voice answered, “IT IS I, BLOODY MARY!†Susan and Mia started to laugh again, for it was fairly dark in the room, and they thought Tanya was trying to spook them by changing her voice. Suddenly, the sickly vapor partially coalesced into the shape of an ugly hag! It was Bloody Mary! Her deeply wrinkled face was contorted with malice, her eyes were black pits, and her hair was dull, unkempt and dirty. On her hideous lips was a vicious sneer. Her legs were still vaporous from her waist down and appeared anchored somewhere behind the face of the old dressing mirror. Suddenly, Bloody Mary thrust herself halfway out of the mirror, her shabby, rag draped torso solidifying and her scarecrow arms extended before her! “Oh my God†screamed Tanya as the grasping talons of Bloody Mary seized Tanya tightly about her neck. Tanya threw up her arms to break the deadly hold but to no avail for Bloody Mary had her in a cold, steely grip! It happened so quickly that Mia was startled and dropped the candle she had been holding. Susan could do nothing but recoil in terror! In the blink of an eye, Bloody Mary jerked Tanya, screaming, into the mirror, their bodies passing fluidly through the glass face. Both had vanished and there was nothing left to be seen but the reflections of Tanya's friends, shocked and shivering, in the dim, flickering candlelight.
