The idea behind this stems from the paranormal investigations that are popular on some TV channels where investigators appear go round reputed haunted buildings looking for things going bump in the night. Part of my own profession would involve looking for things that would go bump in the night but more from a security stand point although some colleagues would swear blind that some thing was there and scare themselves witless.
