Santa Claus Island; Captain William Mayors of the East India Ship Company vessel, the Royal Rendeer, named the island when he arrived on Christmas Day, 25 December 1789. Captain Mayors landed at the West Coast and two of his crewmen were the first recorded people to set foot on Santa Claus Island.
