After a vigorous community vote for our June Artist of the Month, we congratulate Martial as our winner. He’s a 77-year-old French-speaking retiree living in Quebec, Canada.

He’s been a member of the Renderosity community since 2000 and remembers the previous website to Renderosity that was created for Poser users.

“I bought the first version of Poser, and the first version of DAZ Studio, which is free now,” he said.

Drawing, oil painting, using charcoal and watercolors have been hobbies for Martial since he was a young man.

“When Apple created its McIntosh computer, I was fascinated by the art creating possibilities the computer offered, and I bought an Atari ST around 1985. Using this computer, I began to create 3D models and was drawing with 256 colors. I finally bought an IBM clone around 1992,” said Martial.

He also has a passion for photography and still draws portraits with pencils and “color sticks” for family and friends.

Because of his day job as an urban planner, art creation was a hobby and remains so today.

“I bought Carrara 3D and Rhino 3D but it took so long to create models that I began to use models created by others and bought them to use. SO, BRAVO to all 3D creators at Renderosity and at DAZ Studio for your skill and patience,” he said.

Now, he finds his pleasure in creating a variety of illustrations; composing scenes using DAZ Studio and Photoshop, mixing different models and using some of his photos as backgrounds. He doesn’t have any particularly favorite subjects.

“I have also used Vue d'esprit, Bryce and other software. My inspiration is coming from too many subjects: persons, music scenes, sci-fi, fantasy, street scenes, animals, dance,” he said.

He also draws inspiration from the masters.

“I have read and seen many art books during my life. I like Degas, Durer, Vermeer, Rodin, Dali, and so many others.”

When asked about advice he would give younger artists, he said he would never be so presumptuous, but that he would hope everybody primarily takes pleasure in creating art. He likes to see impact created from composition, and hopes to see every image tell a story or reveal an emotion.
