Community Forum: "Guess the Picnic Goodies"

Welcome to the Community forum picnic challenge. This challenge is the main event and a picnic twist on last year's marble jars. The challenge is to count the fruits and vegetables in the above image. I took the photo myself and know the precise number of fruits and vegetables. I also made an awesome stew out of the props after I took the photo. Hint: Don't forget to include how many grapes and blueberries are hidden in their bowls-they count towards the overall number. You don't have to break down the number count, just one overall number. As a bonus, include a small family friendly picnic sketch -the sketch could be a comic to make us laugh or scratch our heads. You don't have to include an image with your guess. The first correct guess is the winner. You can make two guesses per day. Good Luck.

Staff is permitted to enter, but will not be eligible for prizes. Staff must Clearly state if an entry is staff to avoid confusion for the judges.

My guess is 273. I know I don't qualify. But I like guessing. And if anyone's wondering, Wolf did not tell me how many there are. I have no clue.

I think the previous guesses are a tad on the low side, so I'll go for what seems a ridiculously high first stab - a nice round 1000.

P.S. my Auntie Imelda's really good at these sort of things, but she's also a stickler for the rules. Since she's an AI she needs clarification as to whether she can advise me...

The 3Dcheapskate (also available in DAZ and HiveWire3D flavours) occasionally posts sensible stuff. Usually by accident.
And it usually uses Poser 11, with units set to inches. Except when it's using Poser 6 or PP2014, or when its units are set to PNU.

I never thought I'd have to say no a.i. in a simple counting/guessing game, but the world has changed beyond even what I can imagine. I think it would violate the intent of the game to use predictive algorithms. The game is intended to be fun and challenging. The game would lose that challenge if a.i. is used to solve the puzzle. I do thank you in being up front and honest; a fine virtue to have. So, make your guess, a.i. free, and have fun. And please, visit the other challenges and have a great picnic.

Aunty's Imelda isn't really an AI, she's just a figment of my imagination who happens to have the same initials. But she's now refusing to give me any advice or hints, so the next guess (my 2nd and thus last for today) is my own, based on the binary chop search technique...

I understand. I don't know much about the new high tech methods. I prefer the old-fashioned 'squinted eye' method' of guessing.

A photo from a pixie pinhole camera ! "What's a pixie pinhole camera?" I hear you ask. It's a sealed box with a single pinhole in its front face, and it's full of pixies with pencils who trace whatever picture appears on the inside rear face of the box. Unfortunately it can only take a single photo as the pixies escape when you try to get the picture out.

Mid-Point Summer Picnic Event Speech

Hey everyone,

I’m not one for sappy speeches, and I’m definitely not here for sympathy. But I’ve got something to share, and I hope it hits you hard—in the best way. Two months ago, I had a stroke. A blood clot went from my heart to my brain. I’d spent a year pouring my soul into building this Summer Picnic Event before that happened. Then came heart surgery, and let me tell you, waking up to surgeons scrambling over an arterial bleed from a surgical mishap wasn’t exactly on my 2025 vision board.

But none of that matters. What matters is this: lying in that hospital bed, staring at the ceiling through endless nights, my biggest fear wasn’t about me. It was about this—our event, our community, our art. I was terrified I wouldn’t make it back in time to launch this Summer Picnic. Getting here felt like pushing a bulldozer up a mountain, but I’m here, and so are you.

Here’s what I need you to hear, straight from my heart: don’t stop creating. We’ve all been through changes—big, messy, soul-shaking changes. You know what they are; no need to rehash them. But don’t let them dim your fire. Keep making art. Keep doing what sets your soul alight. I haven’t posted stories in months—writing’s my thing, but the stroke hit my vision hard. I’m almost there, though, and I’ll be back at it soon.

In those long hospital nights, one thought kept me going: I have to tell them. I have to tell you—don’t quit. Don’t ever stop. Keep creating, keep sharing, keep shining. That’s what this event is about, and that’s what we’re all about. Let’s make this summer unforgettable.

Oof, that's rough. I'm glad to hear that you're better now, and back at it. Very inspirational speech though, thank you for sharing :)

Wolfenshire, take care of you, and we'll try to make fun for you. I'm sure there are more people to share their picnic stories or ideas. Some can be still on the road to be back from holidays.

I'm in a really generous mood this morning. I've been working on building the Halloween Contest module, which is always fun for me because I like creating the lead line and description, and then the promo images... plus there's a bit of a surprise this year, can't wait to see the reaction... so, anyway, since I'm feeling generous, here's a hint; a lot of you are guessing way too low. I know, I was surprised too when I sat down and counted it out. It's the blueberries that throw you off. I recounted several times because I couldn't believe it was that high. Okay, so, on an unrelated side note; after the stroke, the doctor told me to eat tons of mackerel because it's a super brain food for healing,  but Most of the mackerel I've found is gross, but I eat it anyway....but, the other day I found mackerel in jalapeño sause, and omgosh it's good.

My gut says 372, but my gut is usually wrong!

My gut told me that I shouldn't have eaten that runny, smelly cheese at the bottom of the picnic basket that nobody else had touched. Unfortunately my gut didn't tell me that until a few minutes after I'd eaten it, with the result that I've been stuck in the latrines  - at least I hope it's the latrine and not the hole they dug in preparation for the ceremonial tree planting...

That sounds really awful - glad you're still with us !

And don't forget that a wise man once said something like "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

Then again eating that runny, smelly cheese didn't kill me - but I wouldn't say it made me stronger. So maybe he wasn't so wise after all?

Runny, smelly, cheese? Are you talking about the tree fertilizer I spilled in the picnic basket? That was for the ceremonial tree planting; no wonder I couldn't find the fertilizer.

...

Asking another aunt of mine, Auntie Jasmine (not cheating as she's an AJ, not an AI) , she told me that if you study Wolfenshire's phrase closely two things stand out. Firstly it says 'a lot of you', not just 'some of you' and not 'most of you'. Secondly it doesn't just say 'too low', it says 'way too low'.  She then quickly crocheted a matrix showing all the guesses that had been made up to that point, held it up for me to examine and, with a swig of bourbon and a puff of her cigar, asked me in her sweet little voice, "Soooo... ?"

I thought it was the wine that had 'legs'. 😊And I'm sure there was a camembert in the basket at the start of the picnic, so I think somebody must have snaffled it box and all.
