How about using the tile node? You should be able to get a good repeating pattern from that.

How about this thread?

Tile has the same problem as Weave. I think maybe these
patterns include the edges (lines), so they add too much complexity
at the fine scale. There's too much "aliasing" of the lines. And when
I make the two colors similar enough to get rid of the aliasing,
the pattern just disappears!

Thanks for the tip. I'll peruse that thread and see if I can learn anything.
The glittery effect is beyond what I want, but it looks like Xanaman
got the noise right!

The scale here is still a bit coarse, but it's clearly better than
any of the other choices!

Looking good, ockham. I'll have to investigate using the Cellular node for fabrics. Like you, I've tried the Weave node before and it's - how can I put this diplomatically - not particularly good. :)

I've done some work on this sort of thing. There are many styles that are possible, but you mentioned "silk" which means to me that you have left out a couple key features.
Do any of these show the effect you're looking for? I can tell you how to make these in detail if you like. Let me know which are most like what you want. Click Here for full size.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

FWIW, in GIMP, there's an easy grid maker (I'm sure P-shop has one too). You make a black grid on a white background (or vice-versa, forget which offhand), and drag that in either as a transmap, or as a reference image for whatever you want to whomp out for a shader. This way the P4/PPP folks can have some fun too. /P

I'd love to see how you did #2 and #5 in the top row and #2 and #5 in the bottom row!
They're all spectacular. I'd like to know how you did them all, but I'll settle for just those 4 :) hehe If that is over the top, then I'll settle for #5 in the bottom row :)

I'm trying to find a good silk-hosiery tex. Probably could set it up as an image, but it would be a really 'heavy' JPG.This picture shows the best I can get from applying the Noise node
to Bump. It's fairly good, but seems too random. Seems that the just-right
solution would be a node that makes dots, same as Noise,
but in rectangular patterns instead of random.
Weave doesn't work at all; its pattern is too complex and goes
wild at fine scales.
