file_467424.jpgEach month the Renderosity community votes on the Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... April's AOM is henno!

We congratulate henno for an outstanding collection of works in the CINEMA 4D Gallery!

Who is 'henno'?

"henno" is Henno Drop. I live in The Netherlands, and I am 37 years old. I work as a graphic designer for a design studio in Rotterdam called Identity Design. We create visual identities, magazines, brochures and websites for corporate clients. Another speciality is board game design for our sister company Identity Games.

How long have you been working in digital art?

I studied graphic design in The Hague. And I have been working as a designer since 1992. My first contact with digital 3d software were Bryce and Poser. Although I liked those applications, their limited modeling possibilities made me look for an affordable modeling application. I found CINEMA 4D in 2006. I was hooked immediately. I spent hours and hours learning how to polymodel. My first finished illustration is still in my Renderosity gallery. It’s the one called TEETH! As you can see, I have learned a great deal since...

What are you currently working on?

It usualy takes me a long time to finish an illustration, as I have limited spare time to work on it. I don’t care if it takes me a few months to create an illustration. In my professional work I find things are often rushed because of tight deadlines. I don’t need stress when working on personal work… Currently, I am working on a model of a salamander… but, who knows, over time it could well turn into a dragon ;-)

What all is in your digital toolset?

I use CINEMA 4D R12 for modeling, UV mapping, rigging, lighting and rendering. I use ZBrush for detailing the models, and sometimes for texturing. Photoshop is my main texturing and postwork tool.

What do you like best about CINEMA 4D?

I like CINEMA 4D’s versatility, it’s user-friendliness and it’s great integration with Photoshop, After Effects and ZBrush.

Are there any tips or tricks you would be willing to share with other users of C4D?

One thing I found out is that, when learning CINEMA 4D, you shouldn’t limit yourself to CINEMA 4D tutorials, but also check out tutorials for other applications, like Maya. They can be of great help.

What do you think your best piece of work is and why?

I consider Salomé my best work in my Renderosity gallery. I like this image as a whole. It has nice composition and atmosphere. It deceives you by seducing you with a voluptuous dancer and setting, then confronting you with the horror of a severed head. I like that…

Do you have any traditional art experience?

As long as I can remember, I have taken a keen interest in fantasy and sience fiction art. I grew up with book covers, poster art and record sleeves by Roger Dean, Patrick Woodroffe, Jim Burns an d Rodney Matthews to name a few. They inspired me to start drawing and airbrushing. Later, I attended the Royal Academy of Art where I learned more traditional art skills.

Who, or what, inspires you?

It’s mainly books and movies and work of other artists that inspire me.

How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

I have always found the Renderosity community very friendly, helpful  and encouraging. Most of the tutorials on Renderosity have been helpful when I started to learn 3D.

Do you have any parting comments, or advice for other artists?

I wish the Renderosity members all the best and I'd like to thank all of those who have taken the time to view and comment on my work. Cheers!

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.

Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.

To learn more about Renderosity's Artist Of The Month [AOM] award, and to view our past AOM's, please visit the AOM page, which can also be found on the sidebar under Highlights.
