Each month the Renderosity community votes on The Renderosity Artist Of The Month [AOM] ... August's AOM is clintnewsham!
We congratulate Clint for an outstanding collection of works in the Photography Gallery!
First of all, let me say this has come as a nice surprise as I never expected to get voted Artist of the Month. A big thank you to all who voted for me, it must have been a hard decision with so many talented photographers in the running.
Who is "clintnewsham"?
Hi, I'm Clint Newsham, I live in the south east of England with my wife Jacquie (who is also a member of renderosity) and my daughter Samantha. I work for an American firm based in the UK as an electromechanical engineer, which means I'm out on the road all day and have plenty of opportunities to fit in some photography.
How long have you been working in photography and digital art?
I've been working in photography for around 20 years now. It started out a bit hit and miss. Had a few images published in the early days, but I had no direction to where I was going and tended to shoot anything. These days, I find I've settled into macro photography and the joy of shooting small insects, etc. As for digital art, I'm still learning. Digital art opens up a whole new world of imaging and it's only your mind that holds you back.
Do you have traditional art experience?
The simple answer to that is "no." I did draw a lot when I was young, mainly wildlife and birds and things like that, but I was certainly no John Constable.
What are you currently working on?
Now that's a good question. There's so many different things I would like to do, but time is a big factor due to work commitments. As you've probably seen in my gallery, I've been working on a bit of digital art (the egg series). I would like to further this work in time, and work on some more shots using fruit and veg. I would also like to have a go at landscape shots - I could never get these shots right compositionally, or in any other way.
What software/equipment do you use and why?
My word, there's so much - the equipment is endless, as is the software. The main camera I use is a Minolta 5D, and the lenses range from 10/20mm, 50/500mm, 70mm, 105mm, 70/300mm, 100/400mm, etc. My favourite lens would be the 50/500, as the results in some wildlife shots can be quite stunning. Next to that would be the 70mm macro, as the results and detail caught in some close up images are excellent. Software - most of my work is done in Photoshop CS2, although I do use Lightroom, Paintshop, and a few others. I must admit that my favourite free piece of software is Neat Image - I find it invaluable in noise removal.
What do you think your best piece of work is and why?
That's an easy question. It has to be "spiral of life" - I really like the contrasting colour caught in that shot and it's the shot that's sold the most. Also, it made front cover of a photography magazine the other month.
Who/what inspires you?
There's so many good photographers to be found on the web and worldwide, it's not possible to pick one. Each in their own individual way can produce images that can inspire and make you want to go out and get that shot yourself.
What do you enjoy about photography?
I enjoy everything about photography. From taking the picture, to processing the picture. But the main thing is knowing that moment when you know you've nailed the shot you wanted. It dosen't happen often, but when it does it's great.
How has this online community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
Renderosity offers a great service to photographers and artists alike, to showcase their work for free. It has given me another outlet to show my work to the world, which I'm very grateful for. There are many artists on this site who have superb portfolios, and it's looking through these portfolios that gives me ideas for my own work.
Parting comments and/or advice to other artists?
Once again, a big thanks for your votes. It's an honour to be Artist of the Month. As for advice, don't be scared to get out there and get in close to the action. I'm sure you don't need any more than that. Also, submit as many images as you can to magazines. You never know when you may be printed, and there could be a nice little cheque to arrive in the post.

Artist of the Month is highlighting a talented Renderosity artist that has been nominated by mods and admins, and voted by the community. Recognition is given to this member for their collection of works for that year.
Since we only select one AOM per month, it is not about their works for that particular month. Instead, it is about highlighting a talented artist's works for that year, and they are recognized during that month.
