The Orange Tip (Anthocharis cardamines) is a butterfly in the Pieridae family. So named because of the male's bright orange tips to his forewings. The males are a common sight in spring flying along hedgerows and damp meadows (I captured this one in Torgny – South Belgium on April 1st, 2012) in search of the more reclusive female (see my next upload) which lacks the orange and is often mistaken for one of the other 'White' butterflies. The undersides are mottled green and white and create a superb camouflage when settled on flowerheads.

Superb capture of this difficult species! In my experience, they are very active, so catching one resting, long enough to take a picture, is a bit of a challenge. This is, however, a different genus from the one I have captured. It has the mottled underside, which mine lacked.

This is spectacular Michel! I didn't know that such colors existed on one butterfly! Wish we had them here.

Always a great moment when they sit down and let you take some shots before fluttering away. Well done shot.
