Subject: Can you make the distance fading and misty in Firefly renders?

From what I’ve read here and in my searches of the older threads, it sounds like Poser 7 wasn’t designed to include any form of “depth cueing” or "atmospheric perspective" in the rendered output. Are Poser users still required to fake this sort of thing in PhotoShop (or a similar program) with masks and gradients?

You can do it - but even on a fast machine rendering will take forever http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1140688

Is it difficult to set up? Also, how long is "forever?" I'm not sure if the effect in the image you linked to is the same as a progressive fading into the distance. It might actually be more complicated, given the rays of light cast through the blinds.

Just the depth cue effect is simple to set up and will render rather quickly. In the Material Room, click on "Create Atmosphere", then select "Depth_Cue" from the menu. From that on, you can make more detailed adjustments on the Atmosphere material. The effect from MungoPark's gallery is volumetric which will take longer to render. Tou get that by picking one of the other items in the "Create Atmosphere" menu.

just to add, rendering with depth-cue mask is really fast in poser.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

Forever in this case was 5 hours on a dual core 2.8 giga imac with 2 gb memory - here is a tutorial by rgus how to create this effect: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutorial/index.php?tutorial_id=956&page=1

I'm glad that some folks had success with atmospheric effects--tried it with an indoor scene-when from white to white in 256 shades of white (Poser 5).  Plutom

A couple or six 12 oz. curls and if you squint your eye's just right works too.
