Hi All,
I'm interested in how many of you are now using Daz Studio 6 exclusively compared to Daz Studio 4.2X.
I am moving my store from Daz 3D and a lot of my Daz Studio 4.X utilities do not work in Daz Studio 6 unfortunately. DS6 uses a new underlying scripting engine which is not backwards compatible with the one in DS4. A major frustration with DS6 is that the Scripting IDE also no longer includes the ability to debug script, so I have found it basically impossible to convert my DS4 utilities to DS6 as it sometimes just crashes DS without any error messages.
I say all that because I want to see if there would still be interest in my many DS4 only utilities like Spring Dynamics, LimbStick, Animation Tools, and my various Studio Tools Sets.
I'd appreciate your feedback!

ATM, the user recommendation is NOT to uninstall DS4.2X because of the scripting change. And it would seem that although vendors are expected to update to the newer version, for some individuals, like yourself, will find it impossible to provide a workable solution in the future.

I’ve not installed ds6 and have no plans to do so. The Daz people are saying that scenes made in ds4 can be rendered in ds6 and ds4 scripts and plugins can be used in ds4. There is some effort from 3rd party developers to make recent scripts compatible with ds4 and ds6. That won’t happen where the developers are gone. The real draw for ds6 right now is support for Rtx 5xx0 graphics cards.

I do use Daz Studio 6, but not exclusively. I own all of the items you mention above and I love them and will continue to use them. I have no plans to stop using DS4.
Some of the plugins by BJ have been updated for DS6, you have to download them in DIM. I have multiple versions of Daz Studio installed because of plugins I have purchased and continue to use.

I use Daz 4.24.03 exclusively. I use so many old scripts many of which are no longer available that I doubt I will ever move to DS6. At best I may use DS6 in addition to DS 4.24 if I ever get a RTX 5000 series card. But until then it will be only DS 4.24, and after that I will still probably do the brunt of my work in DS 4.24. There's probably a better chance of me migrating to Blender or something else before I would use DS6 to be honest.

I got Daz Studio 6 back in June. Waited a couple weeks before installing. It's noticeably "peppier", but... So What?
There still hasn't been ANY updates and pretty much all the scripts & utilities I use haven't been updated. In essence, 6 is useless to me.
As such, I'm thinking of uninstalling for now. Any problems on doing that? I wouldn't think so, but...

DAZ 6 is a huge nothing-burger.
They skipped version 5, and all you can tell is an added AI assistent?
DAZ is repeating the Poser failure.
Poser is just charging you for their scam.
Poser is basically dead and DAZ is about to die too.

The DS verwsion tacks the Qt version, hence DS 6 since it is built using Qt 6.
It's true there are no blockbuster features, but there are some very nice things even so - two that strike me are:
- DS 6 can mix draw-styles, so you can have one item in wioreframe and another solid (use the Universal drawstyle, then you can override for individual objects) - very useful when posing, for example have a cup in wireframe and the figure in smooth shaded, as you adjust the fingers you will know they are just touching the cup when its edges start to disappear under the surface of the fingers.
- DS 6 lets you edit strand-based hair in the Viewport, so you can see the figure's pose and other scene elements (clothes, furniture, etc.) which makes it much easier to get the desired look.
Don't forget, too, that pretty well all the new features since DS 4.20 were DS 5/6 features that could be implemented in DS 4.
DS 6 may not offer anything to you yet, it depends on the features you need, but it is not at all accurate to say that the chat-bot is the only addition.

having it in Studio 6. I still use the latest studio 4 because the Nvidia 5090

As a result of DS6 scripting engine not being backwards compatible with DS4 script and the fact that Daz did not include a script debugger in DS6, it's not possible to to find what replacement functions are exposed by the script engine API. Basically any DS4 scripting that goes beyond basic automation is affected and cannot be upgraded at this stage.LimbStick is for me the most helpful tool besides a few of your other tools, I would appreciate having it in Studio 6. I don't know much about Daz or scripts, so what I say might be pointless. But if they're Python or some other format that you can open to edit, you might try asking Claude or DeepSeek for help updating them for your own personal use. I know not everyone likes AI, and that's fine, but if you're willing to use it, it might be a way to get what you need.

For the record, I have tried DIM. I don't like it, had problems trying to install one thing. So... yeah... no independently, i.e. not through DIM, downloadable installer, not going to use it.

Although some people have certainly had issues with the uninstallers, it isn't universal. I just tested with the main DS 6, and I know it worked with the ebta because a couple of times I installed while it was running and had to uninstall/reinstall to be sure the style files were not broken.

As I said, the uninstaller does not fail universally - "I just tested with the main DS 6" The question is therefore why you are getting a different experience, and whether it is something daz did or some local issue or conflict. Which would be better discussed in its own thread, not diverting this one.

@ Nevertrumper, I don't concider Iray to be outdated, the problem is it's implementation into DS4 was half assed at best. You see shader handling in DS is what's outdated, a shader in DS needs a shader file ( the actual code for the render engine), a definitions file (all of the channels you see in the surfaces tab are created by it, it's also the go between for the render engine and the shader file) and a preset to apply it. With an Iray mdl you have all three in one file and DS just can't handle them.

You can manually delete the application and the install manifest (.dsx in the manifest archive folder) to clear it out, then try reinstalling and if the problem persists check the helper Log from Advanced Settings (aplications, and things that install like aplications such as plug-ins, are handled by DIM Helper rather than DIM itself so that they can be run with elevated privileges) and ideally post it (to a new thread so as not to further hijack 3DUniverse's thread). The question is, why I don't get the uninstall.log? As I said, the uninstaller does not fail universally - "I just tested with the main DS 6" The question is therefore why you are getting a different experience, and whether it is something daz did or some local issue or conflict. So, you think, that some have the uninstall.log and some don't?
If DAZ would be investigating, they could start by making a Poll about that. I honestly think, they don't care.
I for sure don't want to discuss this at the DAZ Forum website, where you can delete posts, that you do not like.
