It seems to be when the program access the appdata.  if you remove or rename the folder there, 6 will come up in demo mode but run so itthat info may help in the debugging

Not sure what it sets for security without the code, but if it just sets a flag and you are thinking of open source, just set  what ever i sneeded for it towork.

I fear I am not too good at teach stuff, you think there is a way to have it work again? It doesn't let me put my serial number, I only get that error and cannot access the program anymore.

AT this point, there seems to be nothing we can do.

I tried rolling back to previous and it did not work

The only choices are microsoft updates (unupdates) or Rendo can fix it

If it is because it happens in apdat folder, maybe move the securiy info to another location not protected bu microsoft security or

disable the security check.

for info (if yuo still have them, blacksmith 3,5 and 4 still ork, I no longer have version 5 so can not comment on it

I really hope to find some previous versions then, too bad as this was a very essential program and I wish Rendo will give us the assistance to make it work again.

I am dead in the water on some projects without blacksmith

I use it for all morphs for one reason, it allows temporary welds, which alows morphing and smothing accross seams.  the poser smothing brush can cause seperatiosn if used accross a seam.

I will be submitting the v4 to LF1 shoe fitter today, but will not be able to do any more until I have blacksmith

Dear Bill, same as you unfortunately, I need it badly for texturing, it is a life saving program for seams and all that. It seems we are in desperate need for help, I hope Renderosity will fix it.

Should note I had the subscription version which I kept till it was no longer supported.   But the serial I have still worked.  Till this error of course.

The windows version download is the same file it has always been, nothing changed.  So still has the error.

That did it for BS7, but TT2 (which is part of &) does not load

AS for BS7 Loaded lh1 painted across his torso and saved, looks ok

It looks like there was a PRO flag that was set in th e appdata folder as well

so for right now, no .abr files (I can work around) and no large textures no problem, and may be some other things  i missed

Fyi, that redownload set off several virus warnings with severe threats. Also, didn't fix it.

More Info-- Mac users it still works. 
Win 10 PC Not connected to the internet-- launches but opens in demo mode since it can't connect.

This should be Pro version & include TextureTransformer.

Considering bundling this with with Poser 14 under Poser license managment to simplify things going forward.  Thoughts?

It would make sense to bundle it with Poser 14, since Bondware is considering making it open source.

Downloaded, tested.  TT2 now working, says Pro

Still can not import .abr brushes, but I know how to convert those anyway so I seem to be runctional, time to start cleanup o next freebie :D

as mentioned it no longer recognizes .abr extension

drag and drop for the brush tip no longer works

the drag and drop is inconvienient but I can load by navigating to my brush folder

Nothing else came up in the paint module

Blacksmith had a "phone home feature". I believe the server it tried to reach is no longer available. When my main computer started throwing this error a few days ago(on Windows 10 with no recent updates), I broke out my old laptop that hadn't been used in 2 years. When I tried to open Blacksmith, I got the message that it needed to periodically check in with a server and I should close the app, connect to the internet and then reopen". I did then connect to the internet and as soon as I opened Blacksmith, I got that error we've all been seeing on a very old version of Windows 10 with no updates..

That is the problem with the phone home feature: you pay good money for reliable software, and its accessibility is yanked from you when either the server is taken offline or the author decides to call it quits.  It's unfair to the user.

I don't understand why, if it's a discontinued program, the developers don't remove the need to call a specific number, so that those who already own the program can use it without these setbacks.

I still have version 6.3 and, even if I wanted, I cannot buy the version 7, as nothing about Blacksmith3d is available anymore. 

I agree totally with Hborre, same issue with digital entertainments like videogames, the server goes POOF and we, the customers, are left with nothing at all. We pay for the use of something for as long as they let us use it, it seems.

Great idea Marciushess, why don't they simply remove the need to access a dead server? I think would be the easiest solution.

Looks like they may have only updated the Pro version of Blacksmith 7.0.6 as my standard version is still stuck at 23 June 2017 with a new download 5 minutes ago.

New version of BlacksmithPro (the updated version Tim mentions above) sets off several virus scans and block tutorials from viewing. Texture Transformer still refuses to open (virus scan refuses to allow exe to open). I imagine this is rather troublesome for texturing artists.

To be fair, they are trying to fix it.

the 208599 is mostly functional.  the security alerts some are getting  I do not understand., byt I am on win7 using MS security essentials and received no warnings

You are right Bill, but the other options for texturing are insanely pricy and not all of us make enough to afford the new programs. Plus we had a perfect program that worked perfectly for what we need and now, for just a small thing like the call home option, we cannot use it anymore, which makes us all like we are just renting things that we buy now.

The consensus is that the phone home feature is more trouble than it's worth, in addition that users should have been notified directly about the deprecation of the software.  It comes down to the fact that the user has no ownership, and is not entitled to continue using it long after the author decides to discontinue development and support. This is not a fair deal to the consumer.  Of course, there is the fear of piracy, but to what end when you can't continue to use the software beyond its end of support?  Bondware has placed itself in the same situation, shut down the servers and Poser becomes dead in the water.

Ken1171_Designs once mentioned that if his programs did not guarantee a steady income or interest, he would just move on to other projects.  His programs have phone home features built in and are rather pricey.  Under those circumstances, I would be very hesitant to invest that kind of money into products that I could be potentially locked out.

I wonder why it's so difficult for the Bondware technical team to simply eliminate the need for this server connection. Since the program has been discontinued, why make it difficult for us to use it? And they currently own the software.

Again, what gets me is the utter lack of communication. Don't tell me you can't pull a list of customers who bought the program and message them ahead of time, please. Don't tell me you didn't know phone home is outdated and causes problems constantly.  Don't tell me there isn't a way to make a sticky post here to say 'sorry guys, we are working on it, will keep you uodated'.

That response is on a specific thread on a forum not everyone checks. The list will be buried within days. It is not a good practice not to make information like this available more widely.

We decided to move forward with a 'no-license, free distribution' version of Blacksmith3D Pro (version 8) and Texture Transformer (version 3) for Windows.
It was determined this would be the fastest way to provide a solution for folks no longer able to run the older versions.

It is now available as a ZIP file download here: https://www.posersoftware.com/blacksmith3d

It would be great if some of you could install & kick the tires to make sure everything is working properly.
Please post any critical issues here.

It wont be much help to the load/pose/render crowd but for developers a really good move

still no drag and drop ot the brushes, but I learned long ago how to convert .abr files to BS brushes

I  also have a shortcut to my MR folder in the images folder so I can grab things without leaving blacksmith

That's not intended.  Can you provide screenshot of how it failed, error message, etc?

Same issue here. No error message. The screen on the lower left says it is loading the saved project, but nothing appears in the work screen. No error messages at all.

This was also a previously saved Pro 7 file.

Your frustration is understandable. Blacksmith3D was a great and easy-to-use tool, and it's a shame to lose access to a purchase you've used for years.

Judging by the error message (json mvaluetype objectval required) and the problem with accessing the registration server, the problem is most likely related to the unavailability or shutdown of the authentication server used by the application.

That speculation was determined earlier in the thread.

Hi there, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in — I’m just curious. Is Blacksmith something I could use too? Back in the day, I couldn’t afford it, and then I was away from 3D work for quite a few years, ending up with Blacksmith3D in the end. Maybe it’s a silly question XD I always loved the idea of painting directly on models, but what really fascinated me was being able to swap textures between different figures.

@midinick most likely you could use it just download it and test it.

If it’s license disabled, we can all give it a go. Thanks for that.

There is a V4 to Pauline, but I can not find it in the store and it is not included with the BS8 download

I approched Rendo a couple of years ago andbout doing  TTlight version of V4>LF and M4 to LH but was told that they were discontinuing the product.

Without access to myold work files, I would have to start from scratch.

What I created was a Lite version, just Head,Torso, and Limbs

I may, if I have tme, redo the M4 to LH1, but they are not the current figures so no guarunteees.

OMG! Reading this is making the tears run down my face even more! Okay, who at Rendero do I need to beg to get this approved? This would be the ultimate solution — having a converter like that!

It would instantly cover all the characters, with the existing sets for Roxie, Dawn, and Pauline. And with La Femme and L’Homme you could even cover LF2 and LH2 at the same time. By the way, L’Homme with the M4 texture looks absolutely stunning! Just imagine the possibilities! … Please, Rendero… pleeeeease! I’m begging you!

Many of the longtime users still have tons of V4 textures — what a gem it would be to use them on the main Poser figures! Just imagine being able to apply your favorite Victoria texture to La Femme, and then realizing, “Oh, she needs a new dress!” So you go and buy a new outfit for La Femme instead of sticking with V4 and quietly crying because LF is missing a few things. (Yes, yes, I’m trying to come up with as many arguments as I can!)

Bill, would you be allowed to release the V4/M4 to LF/LH add-on on your own? If so, I’d love to support you — and I’m sure if we asked around on the forum, there’d be quite a few other users who’d be thrilled about this add-on, too. For me, it would be pure heaven — even if it’s just the “light” version. Honestly, most of my renders don’t involve anyone looking into my dolls’ mouths, and I already mix and match eyes from all sorts of packages anyway, rarely sticking with the originals.

FYI - we have uploaded an update to the free Win distribution for Blacksmith3D (v8.0.1.0) that fixes issue with opening v7 project files.

After a hiatus, I'm rejoining the forums under a new username today.  Folks around these parts might remember me as Deecey or DeeceyArt (or Denise Tyler). Been around the block quite a while, 25 years and counting.

Anyway I wanted to let folks know that a few years back I completed some texture transformer packs (TT2, not 1) and they never made it out. So with Tim's blessing I'm now in process of checking them over and making sure they are the best they can be, and then will be uploading them to the marketplace.

Packs that are done and being checked over:

• G3Female to LaFemme 1
• G3Male to L’Homme 1
• G8Female to LaFemme 1
• G8Male to L’Homme 1
• M4 to L’Homme 1
• V4 to LaFemme 1

And I'll probably add G9 to L'Homme and LaFemme once those are checked over.

Just a heads up that they are in the pipeline and I hope to add them to the store fairly soon.  Being that I will also need to do promo material I'll have my hands full for a bit LOL

PS -- I tried to rejoin using my prior account but my email provider and rendo weren't cooperating with each other. I was forced to start over again. 8-(

I do not own Blacksmith3D but I own Texture Transformer that has been failing on open for a bit now. Will the download on page 2 of this discussion help people that only have Texture Transformer?
