my guess would be that on details this fine, make sure you have your render settings set high... good/best anti-aliasing, 0.5 pixel accuracy on the objects and 0.5-1 for the shadows... unless, of course, you've already done this... in which case, I'm boggled. But I've had this happen to me on low-res draft renderings and it cleared up when I upped the settings.

btw... I reserve the right to be dead wrong at all times

Hummm ! Weellll !! The subtitle of my question could be :"Just call me dumbass" ! FWTempest you're damn right. In fact in the rendering tab, i've just see that in fact i've inverted all the values regarding precision of objects/lights, setting them to the max value, which in fact means... the lowest detail.... I think i need serious holidays :-) So thanx a lot for your help : so let's got back to render and to burning some CPUs... :-)

I hope I don't run into that problem because I don't know what you guys were talking about to fix it.

Shonner: you change it in the Render Room, under the Rendering tab to the right, look for Object Accuracy. You can change the accuracy there. (this is C3, not sure what version you're using)

I'm curious what the actual size of the watch in Carrara was? .5", 25mm, 1", 3", 1'? Because I think I had a similar problem even with accuracy turn set at smallest pixel range.

well, I've had troubles with renders with Poser figures due to the exceedingly small scale of their meshes. I just scale them up so the problem disappears.
